LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM
The Life Skills program is a drop out prevention program designed to aid students that are pregnant or parenting to remain in school even during challenging circumstances.
Like Skills offers a variety of services ranging from childcare, to support groups, to transportation, enabling students and their families to utilize remaining in school as a viable option. This program has been in existence since 1991 and has allowed many students to not only complete high school but also to move on to post high school education and training.
The Life Skills program is funded by a variety of sources including the Federal Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Grand Prairie Independent School District. In order to remain in compliance with these funding sources, the Life Skills program requires parent permission, when available, for students who participate in this program.
This booklet has been designed as a guide and resource for you and your child to use to gain a better understanding of the program guidelines as well as services provided. The last page of this booklet serves as the parent permission slip. This form must be signed and returned to the Life Skills Counselor on your campus before services are provided. Please keep this booklet in a handy location so you may reference to it with any question or concerns. Of course, you are encouraged to contact the Life Skills Facilitator on your campus at any time with questions or concerns.
We look forward to working with you and enabling you to make positive choices for you and your family.
